Every year, World Health Day reminds us of the importance of building a healthier, more equitable world. It is a moment to reflect not only on global health challenges but also on the collective responsibility we share in addressing them. At Public Health U (PHU), we believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming health outcomes. This year, we are proud to highlight our volunteer, Steven Batanda, Ph.D., in Public Health, a dedicated Program Manager with extensive experience designing and implementing community health promotion programs. It is through the dedication of public health professionals and volunteers like Steven that these ideals are translated into meaningful, community-level impact.
Here’s what he had to say on World Health Day:
Question: Can you please tell us a little about yourself?
Question: What inspired you to volunteer with PHU, and how does this connect to your interest in global health?
Question: In your view, what role does education play in improving public health outcomes globally?
Question: Can you share a meaningful experience or impact story from your time with PHU?
Question: What message or advice would you share with others who are passionate about improving health in their communities?
Steven’s journey reminds us that meaningful change in global health begins at the community level. His experiences highlight a powerful truth: when education, mentorship, and local engagement come together, they create lasting impact. At PHU, we are continually inspired by volunteers like Steven, whose dedication helps bridge the gap between knowledge and action, empowering both students and communities to take charge of their health. We encourage our community to reflect on the role each of us can play. Whether through learning, teaching, or community engagement, we all have a part in shaping a healthier, more equitable world.
